Yes, the drug was administered by a doctor, but it would appear as though he received it in excess. Abuse is debatable, but use is for certain. I'm wondering if all the positive posts on this Youtube video is rhetoric? It seems to portray "tripping" in a positive and humorous light. What if someone had taken this same drug recreationally? Would people view it in the same light?
I don't think that anyone who views this video in a positive light would necessarily think that David is "tripping." Most people know the effects of this drug if you have ever had a surgery at the dentist, and view it as harmless. The fact that a doctor gave it to him and it is not uncommon to undergo this, hardly anyone would see this as abuse. People would not view this in the same light if this was done recreationally.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading through several posts commenting on this video I do not think that this video has an actual effect on those who watch it. Most comments were just people stating how funny they found the video to be, or about their own experiences of going to the dentist and receiving a little too much anesthesia. Of all the comments there are not any that are negative. This video is not encouraging drug use in any way its simply documenting the effects of receiving too much anesthesia. By it being administered by a doctor adds an element of safety and innocence to it. If this was a video of drug use on a recreational basis than no i do not think the response would be the same. Of course there would be positive feedback also, but not 100% positive as in this video.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the positive comments on this video are not referring to tripping in a positive light. Many people have had surgery and understand the effects of what David is going through. Because of the circumstances that the drug was used, the boys reaction is humorous and enjoyable. If someone were to post a video of reactions from this drug being used recreationaly the responses would be more negative than in this case.
ReplyDeleteAs far as my knowledge goes I would not consider it drug abuse. The dose necessary for someone to be knocked out during a dental procedure probably takes a while to wear off. I was the same after having dental surgery. They certainly portray the drug effects to be humorous on youtube and if this really was a correct and safe dosage then I see no problem with it. They are side effects of a legal drug. If this drug was taken recreationally it would probably be illegal and would certainly be frowned upon. No one should be able to access that regularly and go out and drive or anything.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with david. All drug DO have side effects. I feel as if this would come down to the question of whether you would like to feel a little loopy after surgery or would you like to suffer through the pain. The video is very funny, but I feel as if you cannot compare it to if someone took the drug recreational because it is not used under the same circumstances.
ReplyDeleteI also agree. I do not think it is drug abuse because it was a for a medical procedure and was simply the after affects that I think most people experience in that situation. I also agree that it is somewhat difficult to compare this situation to using the drug recreationally. The purpose of the drug here was medical and used to save the boy from pain whereas if used recreationally it would just be to make a funny video and I think that the thing that makes it funny in this video is that the boy is young and did not voluntarily take this drug and he isn't quite sure what is happening to him. However, if it was used recreationally, the people doing so would most likely be older and be doing so because they think they're cool and in that respect it would be very frowned upon, even if they did the same things.
